Lumenate App

As someone who has dabbled with numerous meditation apps over the years, I was recently introduced to Lumenate by my friend Bryan. (Just to note, this isn’t a sponsored post; just me sharing a fascinating experience and general geeky love of tech and meditation.)
A Unique Approach to Meditation
Lumenate is a very different type of meditation app in that is doesn’t major on just an audio or video guided meditation, but instead does something pretty unusual. Using the phone’s flashlight, it emits stroboscopic light patterns that, with closed eyes, produce vivid visual experiences. The first time I tried it, I was captivated by the intricate patterns and shapes that emerged, making it easier to stay engaged during even the longest meditation session.
For those of us whose minds tend to wander or are easily distracted, maintaining focus during meditation can be challenging. Lumenate addresses this by providing a visual focal point, thanks to the dynamic light sequences that work really well with the audio track. This feature helped anchor my attention, allowing for a more immersive meditative experience.
I’ve read some of the science of how it suggests that it works, and will definitely look into this further, but for me, that wasn’t the differentiating factor… It was the experience, as it really did quieten the mind and reduce distraction.
Cost?
The app offers a free trial, allowing users to experience its core features. After the trial, Lumenate provides subscription options, including a yearly plan priced at £39.99 . I found the experience compelling enough to subscribe, not least because of the meditative tones of Rosamund Pike, who lends her voice to the guided sessions as Creative Director.
A Word of Caution
While Lumenate offers a novel meditation experience, it’s important to note that the app’s intense stroboscopic light effects may not be suitable for everyone, particularly individuals with photosensitive epilepsy or similar conditions. Additionally, the bright flashing lights make it less ideal for use in shared spaces where others might be disturbed (so really not helpful for me to use at bedtime)!
If you’re looking to diversify your meditation routine or find traditional methods challenging, this app is definitely worth exploring.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
